My Year In Review 2021! Not Today Blog 48

I will remember this year as the year I signed up for my row across the Atlantic. But not only for that. This year was wild in so many (positive and negative) ways.

Physically and mentally this has been the healthiest I’ve been in a minute.

I lost 13 kgs bodyweight by setting up a system that I only broke once over the course of the year.

I made amazing friends. With them, I went to explore Jakarta and learned to love the city once again. Or for the first time?

I got to learn about the sport of dragon boat and for the first time in my life, I was able to participate in a team sport without developing the feeling of not being good enough.

The business started off promising but shortly after took a 180° turn. It stagnated to a point where paying salaries became a challenge. Towards the end of the year, things picked up again.

I lost money on a failed investment. I had to close down our other business in Germany.

I was able to contribute to incredible charities. I received endless support from friends for our Atlantic crossing.

I ran freaking 1000 kilometres this year (!) and am now ready to change a large portion of my running regimen to rowing.

And then June/July happened. A major spike of our fav disease threw a dark cloud over Jakarta. Every day people died – also in my neighbourhood. Cases were high and hospitals full.

But Indonesia worked on solutions and was able to decrease cases to the lowest they have been in 1.5 years.

By the end of the year, travel was possible again and I went to visit my sister and her friends in Bali. Absolutely loved it.

I used to tell myself every morning that “I am enough“. I think this year is the first year where I actually believe these words. My mother has played a large part in that. She gave me new confidence this year by just repeatedly giving me compliments.

Oh, and I got properly ghosted for the first time! haha

It’s been ups and downs. Life is wild. Here’s to a new year.

My only wishes for 2022 are head and back scratches. Ladies, please contact me ASAP.
